Prior to doing my coursework for my Media Studies, I did not have much experience with editing. Over the year, I was introduced to Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom. I tested out Lightroom in January and it intimated me a bit. However, I could not use it as didn't have enough time to edit my photos that I took.

To edit my photos, I used Canva. Canva is a graphic design website that allows users to create their own unique designs. I decided to use Canva to edit my photos (as well as create my layout on) because it is much more faster and easier to use than Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop. On the website, you have the ability to edit photos. For my coursework, I decided to adjust the lighting of my photos. My reasoning for doing so is because I thought that the pictures that I took were either too bright or too dark.

The cover image was the image that was mainly edited. This was because for me, I consider the most important picture in a magazine.

The picture you see on the right hand side is the original picture that I took. The photo depicts a homeless woman lying on a bench in front of a house. This photo is my cover image. I thought this photo was appropriate as my main article is around the topic of homeless people and how they are represented in the media. As you can see, the photo In my opinion, is a little to bright to use. So for that reason, I decided to edit it to make it less flashy and bright.

The screenshot that you see above is the edited version of my cover image. To edit the photo, I decreased the the brightness of the image by -41. I dimmed the brightness down as I thought the image was a little too bright (like I have mentioned before). By decreasing the brightness, It made the image a little more clearer than it was before. I also slightly decreased the contrast of the photo by -15. I did this so that the mood of my photos would be dark, since my main article is about the coverage of homeless people in the media, which in my opinion is a dark topic to talk about. And by decreasing the contrast, it adds to the atmosphere and mood of my magazine.
