Editorial photography are images that accompany an article in a magazine or any other published text. However, they can exist without any article and can help create a story or a creative narrative. It is different from other types of photography. This is because editorial photography relies more on the story or article than it does on the brand, whereas for example commercial photography aims to tell the brand's story and sell a product to the consumers (audiences). I will be talking about 3 different editorial photographers in this post.

The picture above is from a photographer named Zena Holloway. In this photo, we see a woman who has pale skin and is underwater. She is also wearing a white, fluffy dress. We can assume that this woman is an underwater creature. The reason why this is considered editorial photography because it tells a story of its own and doesn't accompany any article. It is its own unique story. The lighting and colours are very dim, which is used to make the woman stand out. She is laying down so we can assume that she is sleeping.

This picture is from the photographer Filippo Maria Caroti. In this photo, we see a man walking towards the Great Wall of China. The colours used in this photo are mainly grey, white and black. The Great Wall of China is blurry deliberately. This is so that the man in the photo will stand out and be the main subject of the image. The reason why this image is considered editorial photography is because it is its own image and conveys a story and a meaning. We can say that he is going to walk across the Great Wall.

This image was taken by Quentin Shih. In this picture, we see a woman standing in a glass box while two men in outfits look at her. The colours that are mainly used are black, white and grey. The colouring behind the woman in the glass are very light deliberately. This was to ensure that the woman would stand out. This is another example of editorial photography. It has its own unique story and meaning and it is trying to convey it. There are many different interpretations of what this picture is trying to spread and inform.
