The title of my main article is "Coverage of Homeless People in the Media and News". I decided to write on this topic as well as homeless people is because, in my opinion, homeless people are represented in a negative light and often suffer from prejudice and discrimination for who they are and their social status. Since my magazine is a news magazine, I wanted to present a news topic that I think has not been discussed in mainstream media and news enough, and should be bought up in discussions about the wrong parts about our society in general.

In order for me to present this topic, I decided that I should do research about homeless people, in order to get the right information about them for my main article. Upon conducting my research, I found this brilliant article published by invisiblepeople.tv, titled "How Homeless People are Misrepresented in Media" (I have also hyperlinked the article if you would like to read it). This article served as a basis for my main article for my magazine.

This article goes in depth about how homeless people are presented in the news, specifically social media, national news and newspapers. The media inaccurately portrays homeless people, depicting them as lazy, mentally ill etc. They also mention about how we should be careful of our word choices, and that using negative words, such as "drug addict" and "criminal" do more harm than good. This is specifically for marginalised groups in society (like the homeless) who are already negatively presented in the media.

As my magazine's message is about writing news topics that have not been talked about enough in mainstream news and media, I though writing about a discriminated group like the homeless would be appropriate.
