In this post, I will be talking about the props and the mise-en-scene that will be featured in my magazine. The props are my objects used in my shots while the mise-en-scene are the arrangements and the designs used in my shots. I will be inserting photos of my props.

One of the props that I will be using in my photoshoot are blankets. The blankets are typically worn by homeless people who are seen in the streets. Homeless people wear blankets in order for them to keep warm during the winter months, which can get really cold. Blankets are relevant to my cover image, as my image will include my model wear a blanket over her. In my opinion, blankets are both a physical and emotional barrier for homeless people. It is a sign of comfort for those who are struggling with living on the streets or in homeless shelters. Blankets are symbol of security and safety, so for homeless people, it means a whole lot to them. They are also a cultural code, as we associate blankets for people who are in desperate need for them (homeless people), according to Barthes's Semiotics theory.

Similarly to the blankets, shabby clothing is mostly associated with homeless people. Since homeless people cannot afford to buy regular or expensive clothes, they have to wear shabby and cheap clothing. They often wear warm clothing, because of the cold winter months, they do not want to freeze to death (hypothermia). It is also dirty, because these people can't access laundry facilities, as well as living on the streets where there could be lots of dirt and bacteria laying around. Having the model wear shabby clothing is also a cultural code, as the shabby clothing represents less fortunate people who are either living on the streets or in homeless shelters, according to the Semiotics Theory by Barthes.

one of the props that will be used in my magazine are newspapers. I will be using newspapers because since the genre of my magazine will be news, I thought it would be appropriate to include them. It would give my magazine a sense of nostalgia, as the younger generation of people hardly read magazines (the older generation does), so I think it would be nice to include something that is considered 'old fashioned' to be included in a modern magazine.
