The second preliminary task video is to the song "Stay Young, Go Dancing" by the indie rock band Death Cab for Cutie. Me alongside my fellow Media Studies students created this video as a group and picked this specific song. The overall plot for the video revolves around the main protagonist (our model Ninia) getting on a train in the subway, and ending up in a mysterious forest where she explores the environment surrounding her. In the beginning of the video, she is in the subway station going to board a train. This image is emphasized by the dark colour palette and low key lighting featured. The image and the dark colour palette highlight the mysterious nature of the protagonist's journey, and what is yet to come. The headphones that she wears in the beginning of the video symbolizes how she wants to distance herself from the outside world and wants to escape into a more liberated and free place. When she boards the train, she is holding a canvas, which shows a video that briefly foreshadows what will happen later on in the video. This foreshadowing is not only used to directly tell the audience what will occur, but also showcases the protagonist's true desire of exploring the deeper forest and the environment in it. After this, it quickly transitions into the protagonist removing her headphones and looking around at her surrounding. The montage shows our model exploring the forest with high key lighting featured. The high key lighting in the montage is used to emphasize how happy the model is in the forest, creating a more positive and bright atmosphere. This directly contrasts the low key lighting in the subway station. This contrast is used to highlight the model's journey from being in a moody and dark place to being in a more adventurous and carefree environment. In my coursework video, I plan to include some of the transitions that are seen in this video, for example the fade in transitions from the subway to the forest, as well as the quick shots of our model exploring the forest.
