"How Far We've Come" by Matchbox Twenty

The first preliminary task video is to the song "How Far We've Come" by the Alternative Rock band Matchbox Twenty. Me and my fellow Media Studies classmates picked this song and chose 30 seconds of the song to use for our preliminary task. The overall plot of the video involves our model lipsyncing to the song behind a red and white background while also riding a motorcycle and is prepared to head off to an unknown destination. The video begins with the protagonist simply lipsyncing the song with the view of the city behind him. This first shot is used to showcase and possibly foreshadow that he is potentially leaving the city. It then quickly transitions to the model prepared to get on to the motorcycle. Him riding the motorcycle emphasizes his desire to leave the city and reach his true unknown destination. The low key lighting in the first 2 scenes are used to emphasize the dark and moody atmosphere of the city, and is potentially the reason why the protagonist wants to leave. It then cuts back and forth with the model lipsyncing the song either with a red or white background, with him riding the motorcycle is inserted between cuts. The red and white backgrounds also have low key lighting (but not to the same extent as the motorcycle scene). This low key lighting is also used to highlight the negativity that is supposedly occurs in the city, which causes the protagonist to move out and explore a whole new unknown destination. The dark colours that were used (red, black and grey) all compliment each other, with the particular use of black and grey creating a mysterious atmosphere. In my coursework video, I plan on including the quick shots that are seen in this preliminary task video.
